Getting out the game

Image
It's with a heavy heart that I have to announce I am getting out of the collecting game. I have a son I have to get through university and funds need to come from somewhere and it ismy wrestling figure collection that will be sacrificed.  I have been an action figure collector for a long time, I started with Star Wars, well I say started with Star Wars, those were the figures I got into as a kid to play with rather than as a collector of course. I would go on to get into a whole host of figure lines but I really became a collector where I displayed figures with the JAKKS line, from the RA/AD line but mainly the Classic Superstars.  When JAKKS lost the line, I vowed to get out then and not get into Mattel when they took over the licence and then Sami Zayn got his first Elite figure and as a figure collector and big fan of the indies I thought I'd pick it up and that was it, I was off to the races. It then became somewhat of an obsession and I quickly took a liking to the Legend...

SDCC WWE/Mattel Reveals Day 2

Image
Welcome back guys, thanks to those who read part one of the 2022 SDCC reveals overview, much appreciated, if you haven't, you can read it HERE . So, onto some of the reveals from day 2. The announced render images of an Ultimate Edition Cody Rhodes but it will not be in the regular UE line (as in readily available in stores in the US), not even a store exclusive or Amazon exclusive but it'll be via Mattel Creations, those who are VERY soon bringing us the New Generation ring with the 3 (or 2 depending on when you bought it) UE figures, Diesel, Doink & Macho Man. Also, that was the site where you could pre-order the SDCC exclusive 2-pack of Hulk Hogan & Zeus from 'No Holds Barred', bit of a sour taste tbh as like many, I thought I had one secure, was in a queue to check out and low and behold, it sold out. Hoping I can pick it up one day, we'll see. In the Elite line we saw Chainsaw Charlie, the head is well strange but how can we forget, this incarnation of ...

SDCC Mattel Reveals - An Overview

Image
Hello all, it's been quite a while since I have written a blog, I have been laid up with sciatica, I hope none of you ever have to go through it, terrible pain. So, it's that time of year again, San Diego Comic Con time and it's the time of year us wrestling figure collectors realise we are going to be hit in the pocket big time as Mattel reveal a myriad of action figures they will be releasing in the coming months. We get to see actual figures and pictures of upcoming figures and we always are surprised with what we see and this year is no different. So much stuff has been released, I am starting this after the first day of reveals and I imagine I won't cover everything. So, let's start with what I always regard as my favourite line (more so the original line) the Legends Series. So, we have series 15 about to hit the UK via independent sellers and we knew what was coming in series 16 with an updated APA (Faarooq/Bradshaw in ring gear when part o...

WORST RSC Exclusive Mattel Figure

Image
I put a tweet up recently asking other than the Kurt Angle in the Shield attire, what is the WORST Ringside Exclusive WWE/Mattel figure? As of writing this, there a just a couple of replies. For a RSC exclusive I think the figure should really be something special. I buy them all because it's a line I want to complete and as of now, I have all the ones released so far with the most recent one being the Undertaker one where the figure was nothing special but it did come with a first time in the line belt, the 2001 tag team one which he held with Kane.  I saw a reply to a tweet I put up when I received that figure that basically said, they shouldn't release figures like this with one tag belt unless, it's confirmed that the partner is being released with a belt too because what people do of course when this happens, is buy a second figure of the same person so they have a pair of title belts. I did this myself when the 'Stunning' Steve Austin came out, luckily I was a...

A look at Scott Hall/Razor Ramon Elite Figures

Image
We have recently seen the unfortunate passing of Scott Hall and while WWE have had their deal with Mattel, there have been numerous figures released in the Elite style line of Hall under that guise and his previous one of Razor Ramon so lets have a look at what has been released. One of the earliest ones was Defining Moments one of Razor Ramon. Decked out in purple and it came with the Intercontinental title, it's a very nice figure overall, and it's based on the look he had when he teamed with Ric Flair to take on Randy Savage & Mr. Perfect at Survivor Series 1992. Another early one was a Ringside Exclusive one and it was as Hall from the WCW days as one of the 'Outsiders'. Has the same head scan as the previous release but as it is a WCW one based on his second stint, he is decked out in the black and white. It comes with an entrance vest and sleeveless nWo shirt, rubber of course. In Elite series 51 we had another Hall figure from WCW and this time in was the bla...

Jake 'The Snake' Roberts Mattel Elite Figures

Image
Hello all, on previous blogs I have written about how Mattel have released Jake 'The Snake' Roberts figures, not once but twice in the Legends line since they brought it back, and that meant 4 figures, yes, Jake had numerous attires throughout his career so you can sort of see why they chose to release multiple Roberts figures.   Legends Series 2   On this blog I will talk about the ones throughout their licence they have released in Elite form of Jake. The first one was in the original Legends run, in fact it was Legends series 2, as you can see by the picture, it literally was fire, a brilliant figure.   All-Stars The next release I believe was in the All-Stars range which saw Jake come in a 2 pack along with Randy Orton. When the Flashback line was going, we got a different type of Roberts, it was based on his look from King Of The Ring 96 when he faced Steve Austin, you know, the famous "Austin 3:16" speech. A very different Jake from what we h...

Looking at the Most Recent WWE/Mattel Reveals

Image
A bit late but I thought I'd write about the new reveals. As always, I look for images of the forthcoming Legends series and I must say, I am not overly impressed. I just don't think they are really going down the 'legends' route, I know they can only produce figures of people who are under legends contracts but still, there have been some questionable releases in previous series not just these new ones. For example, since the Legends returned with series 7, taking into account we are only up to series 13 in stores as it stands we have had Jake 'The Snake' Roberts release twice already (he was in the original run of Legends too) and that means 4 figures as both times we have had Roberts since they returned he has been the chase figure. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Roberts' figures, I have all 7 that have been released in Elite form but I just think it's lazy on their part. Anyway, rant over, well that one. Onto the reve...
