WWE/Mattel Ultimate Editions - A Follow Up

Image
I have written previously about the Ultimate Edition figures; you can find that piece HERE but with new ones being released since I wrote that and images of future ones hitting the interwebs, I thought I'd do another piece. The Ultimate Edition line is a great line from Mattel, many had reservations due to the higher price point and figure wise the change in the bodies from the Elite look however, overall, the figures are amazing and there are still people trying to get hold of the older ones. As a prominent Youtuber said, people are collecting a loose and MOC figure of each released thinking they may go the way of the Defining Moment line which even though some have been in clearance sections in their times, are very sought after. Of course, I like doing Top 5 lists, mainly of one particular wrestler in Elite form plus Ultimate Edition form if said wrestler has had one. The last 2 lists I compiled (Ric Flair/Ultimate Warrior) both featured their UE figures. The Ultimate Edition fi...

Mattel Elite/Ultimate Edition Ric Flair Figures - An Overview

Image
I am a big fan of the figures in this style released so far. I am writing this just a few days after receiving the latest Flair figure, the Ultimate Edition one. I hadn't looked this forward to receiving a figure for a long time. We will get onto that later.   So, I am going off memory here, the first Elite style Ric Flair figure released by Mattel was the Defining Moments one that saw Flair come with the infamous 'Butterfly' black & white robe based on his WWF debut on All American Wrestling way back in 1991. I had a version of this figure when I collected JAKKS figure, I believe it was an RSC exclusive but could be wrong. I really wanted that one at the time and of course, really wanted this Mattel version of it. It comes with the 'Big Gold' belt, could be the first time in the line for Mattel figures. I like to go off on sidebars on these blogs, Flair actually didn't arrive with the belt, he had shipped it to Vince McMahon some weeks before ...

Mattel WWE Hall of Fame Figures

Image
Hello all, another week, another blog. First off, thanks to those who have been in touch telling me how you are liking the blogs, it's really appreciated but please, keep the feedback coming, I need to know what you think I need to improve on etc. Also, if there is anything figure related you want me to write about, let me know. So, we are in Wrestle Mania season and we all know, the night before WM is the Hall of Fame, so today I will take a look at the Hall of Fame figures released by Mattel. By the time I had started collecting Mattel figures the HOF figures were well established so I was playing catch up, had to see what was out and what I could get my hands on for a reasonable price. I have to be honest, I can't recall in what order I got the HOF figures I have so let's just have a run through them in the order they came out. Series 1 was a set of 4 figures, I have 3 or 2 out of the 4 depending on how you look at it, I'll explain. So, in the series we had a 'St...

The WWE Retrofest Line

Image
Hi all, hope you enjoyed the Defining Moments write up, today I am going to be looking at the Retrofest line released by WWE/Mattel. I believe the term RetroFest as far as the WWE/F was used was in an arcade game and thses plays into why the boxes for the figures were in the style of an arcade game. Loads of collectors really liked these, I wasn't overley bothered as a loose collector I was more focused on that, one of the figures in the line was one I wanted them to release for years and another one of them, I didn't think about being released but when they did I knew I must have it, I ended getting them all, there wasn't too many in the series, so with that, let's go. First in the line was Macho Man Randy Savage and Savage was doing commentary mostly I believe in 1993, when this attire is from but I vividly recall him wearing this attire in a match against Doink The Clown on RAW in the summer of 93 which came from an altrication when Savage was on commentary. It's...

The Defining Moments Line Part 3

Image
Welcome to the third and final part of my look at the Defining Moments line. In the first 2 parts I think the peak of this line was covered but let's see what else we got. So, May 2016 saw another Sting being released and this was a 'Surfer' Sting and he was decked out in his ring attire that he wore at the WCW Great American Bash of 1990 and that was a Defining Moment as it was the, well, was supposed to be, the passing of the torch as Sting won his first world title defeating Ric Flair. This figure had a variant of sorts, the first release had the boots with laces and the second one was more accurate as it didn't have laces just like the boots he wore in the match. It's an OK figure, nice display piece and as I said, every bit a defining moment. Next up in July we had another Ultimate Warrior and this is one of the figures where I believe doesn't fit into the defining moment category. It is based on his Ultimate Maniacs tag team which was with Randy Savage and...
