New Monday Night Wars Figures Revealed

Image
Only last week I did a blog ranking the first 3 waves of the   Monday Night   Wars figures and on the lead up to San Diego Comic Con we have seen a new wave coming out in that line. We know it's not wave 4, we are not sure what wave it is or when they will be released. You'd think it would be wave 5 and the 'Best of' set may be a stand alone wave but you never know, that could be classed as the fifth wave, it will all come out in the wash as they say. After I posted pictures on various social media platforms yesterday, I have noticed a mixed reaction, most positive but a some not so. Like with wave 2 we were shown a figure (Rey Mysterio Jr. in pink/black) in an Elite form that was first shown in Ultimate Edition form with the doomed Nitro stage crowd funder and this one is Ultimate Warrior in a look from when he was in WCW. We also got to see a great looking Razor Ramon in yellow gear, looks great, love my Ramon figures as he always wore different colours, yes, people w...

Monday Night Wars Figures - An Overview

Image
We are 3 waves in and we know what we have for the 4th, so let's take a look, have a bit of a ranking of the ones we have had. The first wave saw Scott Hall based on his WCW re-debut from 1996, it wasn't perfect with the colouring of the outfit but I was happy enough with this one, a long time coming. Also from the WCW side we got a Hulk Hogan, we have had a ton of Hogan figures, especially over the last 12 months and we have more to come so it's always a case of what Hogan can they give us next and the one we got in the first wave here was based on him on a Nitro after the Bash At The Beach PPV where, what would go on to be the nWo would be formed, all decked out in black, a VERY different look for Hogan. On the WWE side in this wave we had a 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin which was pretty much a re-release of his first Defining Moments figure from years ago with some suttle changes, gave the collectors who missed out on that one previously a chance to have a very simil...

Top 5 Ed Leslie Mattel Elite Figures

Image
Ed Leslie, the man that has rode on the coat tails of Hulk Hogan his whole career. He has had, with chases, 6 Elite figures from Mattel, I'll do a top 5 and class the chase the same as the regular one in the list. This is my list, hopefully you'll agree but if not, feel free to let me know your top 5 on social media, for those that don't know mine already, links at the end. 5. Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake (Elite 49) This was how Leslie looked when I first got into wrestling as the charismatic 'Barber' gimmick. The figure is OK really and may be higher up on other peoples list. Maybe with modern technology the face scan would be better and of course there is the pinless arms and the like that people go on about, not so much a thing for me if I am honest, and even the Elite 16 Diesel that has been rereleased in the Vault/Greatest Hits series or whatever it is has the same head on it as it did when it first came out, I mean they could've at least added th...

Shawn Michaels SDCC 2024, some thoughts.

Image
I haven't wrote a blog about the 2024 SDCC exclusive (that will be available from Mattel Creations so not sure how that is a SDCC exclusive) and before I go on, yes I will be ordering it, it's an Ultimate and I have all male ones that have made it here to the UK so far apart from the re-releases, only one I grabbed was the nWo Hogan re-release. I am glad I didn't blog straight away because I have listened to podcasts and watched YT videos about the release and it put stuff in my head that I want to cover here. So let's talk about the actual figure, we have had it in basic form, Elite form and there was also an entrance great version way back when which was a basic figure with the entrance gear. On the subject of entrance gear, this Ultimate Edition one comes with it but it's a strange set up. Has removable chaps like his previous UE figures but the top half is moulded plastic and so, comes with removeable arms, one set for the jacket and one set for in wrestling gea...

We Are Getting Classic UE Steiner Brother Figures

Image
Last night we saw images of a new Ringside Exclusive Ultimate Edition set, it would be remiss of me not to cover it here so let's talk about it.......we are FINALLY getting classic Steiner Brothers figures, all the images are here in the blog, I am sure you have seen them already but they are there for reference. Ever since the Steiners went into the Hall of Fame I, and I imagine, many of you have been wanting Steiner brothers figures from Mattel either in the Elite of UE lines. I may be off with the timeline but I think maybe the first Steiner figure we saw from Mattel was in the reveal of the Nitro stage set, of course that didn't get funded in the end but one of the figures that were shown that would've come with the stage if fully funded was a WCW Scott Steiner during his solo run. I will admit, I wasn't blown away by the images at the time but it would've been the first Steiner figure, of any kind in the Mattel line. I'll admit, I didn't back the stage,...

Cody Rhodes Figures Since His Return to WWE

Image
Since his return back to the WWE, Cody Rhodes has had a number of figures, I have a number of them, just yesterday I received one, more on that shortly. So this blog won't be one of my Top 5 lists but just a talk about what we have had in the Elite/Ultimate Edition lines and giving some thoughts. Of course, he has had some basics too but for the most, I don't collect basics or Main Event, figures as they are now known, I do pick the odd one up here and there but it is not a common occurrence. So, hopefully I get the order correct, I'll say it now, if I get it wrong, it's not important...... We had a Mattel Creations Ultimate Edition, was a made to order one, well, at least I think that's how it was pushed, so you pay up and they sit on your money for months but, unlike with pre orders you would get from sellers like Ringside Collectables, with Mattel Creations, it makes me think, if I don't jump in and give them my money I may miss out on something, and most of ...

Top 3 Elites and Top 3 Ultimate Editions of 2024 so far

Image
After listening to the Wrestling Figure News podcast yesterday as of typing this, I thought I would take a leaf out of Justin's book and as we are nearly at the half-year mark in the year, give you my top 3 Elite figures and top 3 Ultimate Editions . As you know, I only put figures in my list I actually own so at least one that would've stood a very good chance of making the list is not included, that was Damien Priest. Some honourable mentions, Terry Gordy (108), this was a 2 in 1 figure, didn't care too much for 'The Executioner' part of the figure, I did buy 2 so I could display both styles, many don't overly rate the Gordy figure but it was one I really didn't expect when it was released so was very happy to get it. On the package it showed him with the UWF title but the figure didn't come with one, we did know Mattel were releasing one and we have since found out that will be coming in Legends series 23 with Big Bubba Rogers, he will be the chase ...
