Monday Night Wars Wave 2

We have seen new images, loose and MOC of the second series of the Monday Night Wars figures from Mattel. Here in the UK we are still waiting for series 1 to be available to purchase from Smyths. They have been on their website since they were announced a few months back, no option to pre-order so we are just waiting for the chance to order them.

In this second series we will have Kevin Nash based on his look when he debuted back in 1996 after he left the WWF, this was a week after his partner Scott Hall had returned too, there is a figure based on that look in the first series.

Also in the set, we have Nash's old WWF character Diesel, but it's not Nash as Diesel, it's Glen Jacobs, more commonly known as Kane of course. Jacobs had been Isaac Yankem DDS but it didn't quite work and after Hall & Nash departed the WWF for WCW Jim Ross developed a 'heel' character and on TV said he was going to bring back Razor Ramon & Diesel to WWF TV. Apparently over in WCW Eric Bischoff panicked that he could be losing his new stars back to the competition so gave them a pay rise, I thought they were under contract so that wouldn't be possible, but, well, go figure. Ross introduced Ramon & Diesel but of course it wasn't Hall & Nash, it was Rick Bogner as Ramon and as mentioned, Jacobs as Diesel. Another terrible idea in the annuls of pro wrestling.

Back on the WCW side, we have a Rey Mysterio Jr. it's striking and looks cool, in fact, it was one of the ill fated designs that was supposed to be included, as an Ultimate Edition, with the Nitro stage that didn’t get the back that was required. It’s another Mysterio, and we’ve had A LOT however, we thought it was going to be a Mysterio based on his 'Filthy Animals' look but that has been postponed for now or maybe even shelved, no doubt Steve Ozer of Mattel will be asked about this, let's see if he tells us, I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes out that a decision not to release an unmasked version of him as he has been masked for his entire WWE run. Maybe it’ll get a release in a UE form as there are Monday Night War UE's too, we know for definite we are getting Bret 'Hitman' Hart and 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper so maybe he'll get released in that line.

The Final figure in the second series is a Hunter Hearst Helmsley it's the least one I am interested in and as this set has parts for a BAF this one has the head of that figure in, smart/obvious choice by Mattel.

That BAF figure is, Teddy Long as a referee. Not the first time Long has been in the BAF line, he had a suited figure many years ago, one of the BAF's I don't have.

Let's just hope this first series becomes available for us here in the UK soon and this second one isn't far behind.
