Wrestle Mania Weekend Figure Reveals And More
Hi all, it's been a while, I hope you are all well, I personally am not, had a bout of sciatica and I am still off work with it after about 3 weeks.
So, it's that time of year, Wrestle Mania is around the corner and that means new figure reveals at the Axxess type events across the pond. As of writing this, I don't think they are finished as there are figures we are yet to see that I thought we would, I'll probably talk more about that later.
Before I get onto the WM reveals I want to talk about the latest Mattel Creations crowd funder. So, anyone reading this will know that it is a WCW Nitro stage, with LED lights, the lot. It comes with a figure, then if 5k have backed it before a certain date then there will be another figure. After that, there is an option for another 3 figures, 7k, 9k and 11k will see those being unlocked. Now, the price in USD is $400 plus taxes and shipping. For us in the UK in GBP it was originally up for £470 with shipping at £9. So, there are a few things here. For someone like me who can't display the stage and doesn't want it in box taking up space but of course, wants the figures it was a hard sell at that price BUT, it went from £470 to £500 on the Mattel Creations site and then the subject of import fees was raised online from various people and this would take the total cost to stupid numbers.
Some may be thinking why not buy it, and sell the stage but, as you can only get all 5 figures IF 11k backers is reached that is a helluva risk, imagine someone in the UK, who only wants the figure, backing it early on at that silly cost and then it only reaches 7k backers, they would only get 3 figures and to make a bit of money back, you'll try and do that on the price of the stage but if you add more to the cost of that it may just sit and not sell, I mean it may and you'll be laughing but if it doesn't, it's just sitting there and I am going through that right now as still haven't sold my new Gen ring and entrance from the last Mattel Creations crowd funder. Anyone that is interested in buying it, click HERE and there will be a £20 discount if you say you saw it plugged here.
So in closing, I am not liking the costs overall of this latest project from Mattel Creations and I haven't backed it, will I back it, never say never because if it gets to 11k backers and by that time it means if I jump in I will get the 5 figures then I may just go for it, time will tell.
So here we are guys, time to talk about the reveals, before we get to the Axxess ones, earlier on in the day, it popped up online that there was an Amazon exclusive set and it was an Ultimate Edition of The Undertaker from his debut at Survivor Series 1990 and also, coming with that will be the mascot of sorts from that night, the Gobbledy Gooker complete with break away egg. it's an unusual set but great none the least. I have ordered it from the American Amazon but will be keeping an eye out on the UK version as it will be cheaper, if I find that one I will then cancel the other order. I have tweeted I will be selling GG but now I have seen the packaging I may just keep it in the box instead and hold onto it.
Where should I start with the reveals, well, there's only one place, the RETURN of the Defining Moments figures. Yes, they are back. I have a complete set of the original run of DM figures, I did a Top 10 list a while back, read it HERE - I have said in the past that some of them were questionable as far as 'defining moments' go but the majority of them were very good. This time around, well, you be the judge. The figures are Elite style and as you can see by the images, in the original DM packaging. We have another Bret 'Hitman' Hart, many may say "oh, another Bret, why not do someone else?" but for me, I collect all Bret Hart Elite/Ultimate figures and I am a fan of most so it's cool with me. It is based on his Wrestle Mania VIII match with IC champion 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. Next up is Cody Rhodes, oh, they are all on board that CR gravy train, there has already been an Elite in series 101, I passed on it as I didn't rate the head scan. Then there's his first Ultimate Edition, which is a bit of a cash grab I guess as it was released via Mattel Creations so comes with a premium, should be shipping soon. We will be getting the first incarnation of Mick Foley in the UE line, this is as Mankind and is based on his match with Undertaker at King of the Ring 98, you know, when he was flung off the cell. And the last one in this first set, Shawn Michaels and the look is based on his look from Royal Rumble 97 where he faced Sycho Sid for the WWF title.
There are many places to purchase the set, direct from Ringside Collectibles (officially they are exclusive to them) and there are other options, I recommend you getting them from Bobkat Emporium where because of reading this blog you can get a discount using mania10 until Sunday AND get FREE shipping as the item is over £50.
The next run of 'Greatest Hits' figures was shown, King Harley Race, Shawn Michaels (based on WM XIV), Undertaker, Batista or should that be Blutista, Seth Rollins which was originally a Toys R Us exclusive way back when and DDP who came out in the Legends line, series 10 I believe based on his look when he was in WWE.
Also revealed at Axxess was Elite 102, Gunther, Commissioner Foley, Rhea Ripley, Sami Zayn, Edge and Austin Theory who is also the chase in the set too. Elite series 103 was shown too, this set has Bobby Lashley, Stardust, Mandy Rose, Roman Reigns and The Street Profits.
Sticking with Elites, we got to see another set of Ruthless Aggression, in fact, we normally get 3 figures per set so we may have been shown 2 sets, we saw Edge, JBL, The Miz, The Rock, Torrie Wilson and MVP.
We were shown series 19 & 20 of the Legends series. 19 will see Brother Love with a ridiculous coloured face, Undertaker, Nation of Domination Kama and D-Lo Brown, who is also the chase. 20 will see an outstanding looking Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine based on his look from when he was in Rhythm & Blues, Mr Perfect, complete with a rubber top half of his singlet like what came with the last Ringside Exclusive Undertaker so Mr Perfect can have his straps down, there's a Triple H and to round them off another suited Million Dollar Man, we had 2 suited ones previously since the Legends series came back, one was a chase, which I need myself, this series is a chase too, the white suit is the regular I believe with the chase being in the green suit with an older DiBease head on.
There were some grey prototype figures, I believe they will be in the Best of The Monday Night Wars series and be a store exclusive series in the US, Walmart I think. They were Lex Luger based on his Nitro debut in 1995, Scott Hall based on that Nitro debut when he walked through the crowd in 1996, Hulk Hogan, Undertaker and Steve Austin.
We got to see actual figures of the upcoming series 17 Ultimate Editions who will be Seth Rollins and Andre The Giant. We also got to see actual figures of the series 18 Ultimate Editions and these were Macho King Randy Savage based on his look from Wrestle Mania VII where he faced the Ultimate Warrior who we also got in the UE series a couple of series back.
Ruthless Aggression Ultimate Editions were also shown as we saw Rob Van Dam, Brock Lesnar, The Rock, Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. Mattel have done both Mysterio & Guerrero in some form previously, Rey as a basic in the original Entrance Greats and Guerrero is the original Legends series.
The next Coliseum Collection figures were also shown, and odd combination, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, which looks great and George 'The Animal' Steele but from what I have seen of that one, it doesn't look right.
Some basics and retros were also shown but I don't collect those so didn't really pay attention to those to be honest.
That's it then guys, hopefully there will be more, I eluded earlier on I think there may be as we haven't seen any tag team style Steiner Brothers, of course they are in the fold now, a Scott Steiner is included with the Nitro stage, if it gets 9k backers, this is based though on his singles run after he split with his brother.
