The Defining Moments Line Part 1
Any fans of the JAKKS line will know, they NEVER released a figure of
the Macho Man Randy Savage, there were many things going on behind the
scenes as to why this was but when Mattel/WWE decided to start this
line, a line that was going to be at a higher price
point than the figures already released by them then they had to come
out the blocks firing and oh boy, did they ever.
One of the best matches in the early Wrestle Mania's was from WM VII and
this saw Savage face off against the Ultimate Warrior in a career vs
career match, which stemmed from a long running feud from Warrior not
giving Savage a title shot and this put Savage
over the edge in storyline purposes and at the Royal Rumble of 91,
Savage blasted Warrior over the head with his sceptre and cost him his
WWF world title as he lost it to Sgt. Slaughter due to Savage's
interference.
The WM VII match was great, if you haven't seen it, please do. So, the
very first figure of the Defining Moments line was Macho Man Randy
Savage based on his attire from the PPV match with Warrior. This figure
really was from a Defining Moment and a terrific
one to start the line off, like a lot of the line, if you can get it,
you should try.
Also released along with Savage was a Shawn Michaels figure also based
on a Wrestle Mania match, it was from, what many consider the greatest
WM match ever, of course that's down to personal choice, the match from
WM XXV against The Undertaker. Again, it is
a great looking figure which you can see pictured.
Next in the line was the Ultimate Warrior from the WM VII match with
Savage, it is a very nice figure with the paint on the gear and the ring
jacket, but it is let down by the facial expression. Also released with
Warrior was The Rock, and this was him in street
clothes based on a segment on Monday Night RAW back on September 27th
1999 titled 'This Is Your Life' where Mankind paid tribute to him, I
believe this figure was the last DM figure I was able to get.
The next series from the Defining Moments line saw Rick 'The Dragon'
Steamboat & Triple H. Now, as great as the Steamboat figure looks
and it is a tremendous display piece it's not based on what you'd call a
defining moment, OK, it was very unique seeing him
come out in 91 'breathing' fire but as for a defining moment, I'm not
so sure. The Triple H is based on the attire he was wearing when he
returned to the WWE at Madison Square Garden on January 7th. It seems
like this is a much sought-after figure from the
DM range, it's a decent figure but not one of my favourites from the
line.
After this we had another one from the Attitude Era, maybe the biggest drawing star in wrestling history, that's a debate for another day but this one was Stone Cold Steve Austin based on the Beer Bash that took place on RAW on March 22nd 1999, it's a great looking figure and like many in the Defining Moments line, very sought after. Also released around this time was the first Undertaker in the line and is tremendous. Yes, the Undertaker is a character that basically wars black but this one based on his appearence from the 1996 Survivor Series is great. For those who haven't seen that show, Undertaker came down from the rafters and had wings, I really like this one.
