Wrestle Mania Weekend Figure Reveals
So the time has come, we have had the first reveals from Wrestle Mania weekend in Las Vegas.
I won't cover everything because there was a lot, hopefully more to come, so, where do we start, oh I know......The Coliseum Collection.
We all had seen the blurry images from the video featuring Steve Ozer a couple of weeks ago where it looked like there were two UE boxes with images that looked like Ax & Smash and that was the case as they were revealed official at WWE World on Thursday. Now, we're glad Demolition, or Bill Eadie & Barry Darsow, have Legends deals and we can get figures, I picked up the recent Elites even though I had the original ones and people were excited to get Ultimate Editions so here we are. As we know, the CC is supposed to be a love letter to the old LJN line, the first WWF figures and back in the day, Ax was released but Smash never was released which collectors of the time couldn't understand. Anyway, as these CC ones are a love letter to the LJN's Mattel have tried to match up one of the heads to the one that was on that original Ax figure and the other night (as I'm writing this) I saw the scan and I went straight in because it looked horrendous however, sleeping on it and realising what they were trying to do I now don't have much of a problem, if you look at the image here, you will see on the left the LJN one with the Mattel one on the right so I am at peace with it, when I do get them I can always choose another head when I display them or I could stick with that one, that's the good thing about having a range of heads. I am not sure, I am sure someone can tell me but I think the Coliseum Collection figures have now moved away from Mattel Creations and are now available on Ringside Collectables and they are up for pre-order with an estimated June release, use the code PICKETT for 10% off for these or anything else from RSC.
Moving on, most followers of mine on X or Instagram or even if you read just the blogs, will know the legends series is my favourite is my favourite of all Mattel/WWE figures (which is why I'm annoyed for space reasons the only ones I have on display now are the original series 1-6, Matty Collector & tag team ones) and we got to see some of the future ones. A few were shown, looked like 2 sets (32 and a Greatest Hits) and we had in 32 Earthquake, Yokozuna, Mark Henry and Brian Pillman as a IV Horseman, the build a figure will be Dory Funk Jr. I must say, I never thought we'd get him in the line.
We were also shown some rough looking early versions of some of the future figures in series , we are getting The Steiner Brothers from the NWA late 80's/early 90's and they will be coming with title belts, Rick with the TV title, which would be great if it was sized better than when it previously came out with 'Stunning' Steve Austin and Scott comes with an NWA tag team title which we have not had from Mattel at any time previously. Also shown was the Tonga Kid.
The next set of Legends were also on shown, just waiting for them to drop on Mattel Creations, constantly checking on a daily basis, looking forward to them. I don't really collect female figures, only one in my collection (other than ones I am trying to sell) is Chyna from the DX army but I think the Bull Nakano is the series 31 is a keeper.
So, we knew about the upcoming IC champions box set and at first I was like I only want Patterson, first time in the line belt and all but the more I look at it the more I think I want it. Also shown was the Bash At The Beach boxset with Hall, Hogan & Nash. I thought I only needed the Hogan because my Elites of Hall & Nash in the same gear have head swaps and look like the ones in this boxset but I have been told the Nash is slightly different so I will just grab the whole thing, luckily for us here in the UK it'll be available in Smyths. We also got to see a RAW boxset that featured Cena, Hogan again and Batista, hogan is definitely the only one I want in this set really.
We got to see the first 2 sets in the Saturday Night's Main Event series. We knew about series 1 with Hogan, returning to the line, Hillbilly Jim, CM Punk & Jey Uso and in series 2 we will get Junkyard Dog, Ultimate Warrior, Bron Breaker & Cody Rhodes in street clothes with a soft goods jacket. The cards on them look amazing, I collect loose of course but still, they look great.
Theres a Ringside Exclusive Jey Uso because we haven't had enough already. Talking of RSC, they showed the delayed Rey Fenix & Ricky Saints, hopefully they will ship towards the end of the month which is what they said would happen. Also we saw the New Jack, looking forward to that one as a big time ECW fan. They also showed the Uncle Howdy Defining Moments, one I don't have or as it stands, ordered, and this is a strange one for me because I have every Defining Moments figure released but this Howdy, I mean, I have the Ultimate and passed on the boxset his Elite previously came with but my OCD will probably kick in as I will want to continue wanting them all but I used to be like that with Ringside Exclusives, again, I had/have them all but then, Mattel decide to make the Vault figures RSC exclusives and as I wasn't going down that path I halted on the RSC exclusives, I even have that horrendous Kurt Angle in Shield gear, oh my, it's bad.
The Survivor Series set was shown, pretty underwhelming, we knew who was in the set we just didn't know the attires, I'll only grab the Undertaker because of the difference in gear compared to all his other figures. Also shown was a figure of Jelly Roll, have to say, I have no idea who he is, I don't watch the current product so don't know why he is getting a figure. On that note, there was a figure of a character called JC Mateo, again, never seen him wrestle in the WWE but do know who he is, the JC is for Jeff Cobb, I know him from watching the indies so I'll be picking him up. It was a former indy guy going to WWE and getting a figure (Sami Zayn) that started me off in collecting Mattel figures because I vowed to stop after JAKKS lost the licence but here we are.
They showed the WWE World store exclusive figure which is the Rock in street clothes from back in the late 90's where he posed wearing a roll neck sweater and wore a bum bag (fanny pack to the Americans) and just before the reveals it popped upon social media this was in Smyths, many thought it was a hoax but it is true and I have one now myself. The CM Punk Mattel creations made to order figure was shown, we're not expecting it until towards the end of the year, it does look good I must say.
There was a WWE Shop exclusive Shawn Michaels, based on his Wrestle mania 21 look, never ordered from them before so it should be fun, I don't like Michaels but do collect all his Elites/Ultimate's so will need this one.
They showed a PLE Amazon exclusive Cody Rhodes Ultimate, that went on Amazon for pre order straight away. People will say oh another UE Cody but it does look good.
They also showed another PLE Amazon exclusive and that was.... Jey Uso, yay. Also in a glass case, they showed Jacob Fatu hitting Kane with a savate kick, the Kane in the image is the one from the RAW ring from a couple of years ago and some people think that could mean it's getting a re-release, I am not sure of that, I think they showed those 2 figures as both came exclusively with rings. It is a great figure, easily in my top 5 Ultimate Editions. Ultimate Edition series 32 were shown another Jacob Fatu and that one looks great, also in that set is a Jake 'The Snake' Roberts based on his WM VII look when he had the 'blindfold' match with Rick Martel and another 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin which is a bit meh if I'm honest but of course, I'll be picking it up but I'll wait until Smyths has it, I won't buy off RSC like I have with the Great Muta/Logan Paul Ultimate's that were also shown in this display.
Back to Legends, we knew 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan had comeback to the WWE/Mattel and we knew we were getting an Ultimate and it was shown here, loads of extras, heads, hands a crown, shirt and two 2x4's.
Also shown was an Ultimate Warrior UE and as most Warrior's do, it looks great, based on an early Hasbro figure of his. We've already had an Elite of him based on his first Hasbro now we have this. I moan about getting the same characters over and over but Warrior, Hogan, keep them coming.
Onto many people's favourite lines, and one I still have on display as it stands, the Monday Night Wars. They show series 11 which has Hogan (based on his early run in WCW, 94/95) another figure that is basically an Elite version of one of the Elites that was supposed to come with the crowd funded Nitro stage, I think the only one we haven't had now is the Scott Steiner in white but someone can correct me if I have that wrong. I have ordered 2 of the Hogan's, one for the MNW display and one for my Hogan non Ultimate display. The Headbangers, which look great are also in this set and the last figure is Bryan Adams from his nWo days, the BAF is Rick Rude.
Series 12 was also shown, the set was leaked out and now we got to see it. We have Ultimate Warrior from an edition of RAW where he had a picture smashed over his head (by Jerry Lawler), I wondered at the time why he had a baseball cap on then we got to find out why. Theres a Bret Hart in street clothes, when he used to wear the 'jorts' I am still not sold on the head scan though, we have a WCW Steven Regal, looks like there is a removeable singlet to give you a 2 in 1 figure, every time they have done that, released the figures with a cloth singlet to put on, they have never looked good at all, see the legends Curt Hennig for evidence. I will order one Regal, if it looks OK with the singlet then I may order another. The 4th figure is Goldberg in promo gear and the BAF is Billy Gunn as 'Rockabilly'.
Goldberg was also shown as an Ultimate, his last one wasn't great, this one seems better, had new style articulation, I won't go into that because it's not my thing but also comes with 2 belts, the big gold and the US title, it's the new Big Gold which is great, keep them coming. They also showed a greyed out UE X Pac which should be great.
So that's it for me guys. I haven't covered everything shown but he images/videos are out there for you all. What was your favourite reveal and what you looking forward to the most?
