Ranking The Target ‘Exclusive’ Legends Ultimate Editions
I saw an image on Instagram by FigVault of all the Target Legends Ultimate Edition figures that have been released so far so I thought a ranking of them would be good to do, as you know, I only do my ranking lists featuring figures I actually own and as i recently received the 'Phantom of the Opera' Undertaker figure I know have all 12 released in that series.
Don't forget, in the infamous words of Kyle Peterson, this list can't be wrong as it's my list. I am sure you won't agree with the order of all the figures, you may agree on one or two here and there been it's unlikely you'll agree on the list as a whole so please feel free to hit me up on X or on facebook where this article will be posted on the Wrestle Figs UK page.
It won't be an easy list, they are all very good figures really.
So, here we go.
12. Yokozuna - We’ve had Elites of Yokozuna previously and because of the size of him and the torso choice they would have to use, when this Ultimate was revealed the body looked pretty much the same. Of course, with it being an Ultimate there were a few added things and also, Yokozuna was the chase in this series, from what I can see, they only did a chase twice in the Legends Ultimates and this was one of them.
11. The Undertaker (#2) - Yes, I am putting the most recent Ultimate in at number 11, we've had Elites based on this attire, twice I think, I have the second one that came out in the Legends line. This one may have been higher in the list but I can't get past the painted on eyebrows on the mask, they just look goofy.
08. Shawn Michaels - This isn't that bad of a figure even though the DX era it is based on was a bit crap. We a while back had a Triple H Ultimate that goes along with this one so we always wanted a Michaels to pair with it, we had them both in Elite form previously, I think they were exclusive to Walgreens, I have them but my Michaels got damaged on the bottom of one of the legs. It's not bad and I imagine many of you will have it higher in you lists but he comes in at number 8 for me.
07. 'Macho Man' Randy Savage - If he hadn't had the excellent Ultimate Edition that came with the New Generation ring (which I still have for sale in box WITH entrance) then this would probably come higher in the list. We had a very similar figure to this as an Elite many years ago, I think it was a RSC exclusive based on his nWo run back in WCW and one of the shirts that the Ultimate comes with was on that figure but rubber so I put the cloth one from the Ultimate on that Elite. Very good figure but for me, there are better ones to come.
06. Bret 'Hitman' Hart - I can't believe this figure is this low in my list, I mean, I have 2 in my collection, one with the entrance gear and one without. It's another figure we have had in Elite form, or is it? Well, it's very similar to a RSC exclusive that was released years ago maybe not an exact copy but in Ultimate form. Yes, i have 2, i saw it pop up quite cheap, think it was on Amazon, so I jumped on it, looks so good without the entrance gear on but that looks good too.
05. The Undertaker (#1) - The first Undertaker released in the Target Legends line is a favourite of many, it's quite plain but an exceptional figure. I am guessing there has been an Elite version of this one too, he's had tons of Elites so there must be one in this design.
04. Batista - Just looking at the images while writing this list has me thinking how good is this figure, I mean, it really is great. Looks so clean with the white trunks then there's all the extras that come with it like the shirt, big gold belt and the RAW/Smack Down contracts. It got a re-release but although I am groan about re-releases from Mattel, this one was cool because although the same figure, the tights are a different colour, that's all it needs, just a repaint to make it worthwhile, I look at it then as a new figure rather than a re-release.
03. Vader - Well, what can I say about these figures? I say these because like Yokozuna, this one also had a chase. Both came with the white cape his Legends figure did years ago and people my say the attire on both is quite plain, and it is, one is like an Elite we have had in the past but one is more like what he wore in WCW with Vader down the leg, which the original Legends one did and that makes it great for me. Along with the original Legends release he had another one is the Legends line based on his run in NJPW with a full mask a different ring gear which again, is great and he had a release in the normal Elite line years ago and in one of the Royal Rumble lines, you may recall that series, it was the Dox Hendrix BAF line, hardly anyone, especially in the UK, could get the Brie Bella to complete that Hendrix BAF. Anyway, back to Vader, many of the heads scans weren't if I'm honest but these Ultimates came with 3 heads and one of them, with a stern look, was amazing, it's the one you can see in the image below. Massive fan of these, the one with the red upper part of the singlet is more of his WWE look so I don't think the cape goes with it but the other one, just outstanding, oh, both come with the WCW world title too which before this release had only came out once before and that was undersized too like the one with Vader is, that's something Mattel need to get a hold of, some are too small (this one) and some are too big (the WCW version of the US title).
02. The Ultimate Warrior - You wouldn't believe how long I wanted this figure for, when I started collecting Mattel figures back in 2016 I always asked myself would this Warrior get a release? Of course, Ultimate Editions weren't a thing then but an Elite would have been fine, we did have a Warrior based on his look at Wrestle Mania VII the same year as this Summer Slam one we're talking about (that eventually got an Ultimate Edition too) so when this was finally released I was somewhat overjoyed as sad as that sounds. The face on this is talked about quite a bit and I get it, his expression is out there but the paint deco on it is amazing, it really is, Crazy the situation behind the match at SS 91, you may recall it was Warrior & Hogan vs Sgt Slaughter, Gen Adnan & Col. Mustafa (Iron Sheik) with Sid (Vicious) Justice as the special guest referee. The story goes, prior to the match on the night Warrior 'held up' Vince McMahon for more money and if he didn't get it he wouldn't have performed which would've been a disaster for McMahon and the WWF, it was on PPV and it was at the famed Madison Squared Garden. McMahon agreed as he didn't really have a choice but said to Warrior he was fired after the match. During the match Warrior chased one of the villains to the backstage area and that was the last we saw of him until he retuned at the following years Wrestle Mania to save Hogan from an attack by Justice and Papa Shango.
01. Hulk Hogan - Never in doubt for me to be number 1 in this list. When it was first shown I wasn't overly excited about it, we had had an Elite sort of the same and that was atrocious for a number of reasons so I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. It popped up on Mattel Creations and I ordered it, then it got cancelled and then went back up again and then got cancelled again and it never went back up. I put my frustrations on various figure groups I am a part of on facebook and someone reached out, you know who you are so if you are reading this, massive thanks again. He was a MOC collector and he had this figure but the packaging wasn't to the standard he required as a MOC collector so he said to me if he can arrange with Mattel Creations a refund and they don't want the figure back he will sell it to me. At this point I had no idea how much he would ask for if it did happen, he could have asked for over the odds and I probably would have paid it but I think he charged me less than what he paid for it so I was very grateful, not many in the collecting game that would help like that, so once again, if you're reading this, thank you.
Back to the figure, when I got it in hand I was well-impressed, honestly, I thought it was great, the gear, the accessories but most of all, the head scans, just great. My favourite Ultimate Edition figure of all is a Hogan figure (originally his original nWo one which was surpassed by the re-release with the updated skin tone) his UE's are just great, don't think there has been a bad one yet.
So guys, that's my list, again, to quote Kyle, it can't be wrong as it's MY list, feel free to share yours.
