Today’s Elite Squad Video

Hi all, back again, I am like buses, you wait ages for one then you get two close to each other.

So, the other day I put out a blog talking about the Ultimate Editions in 2024, more specifically, the top 3 I am looking forward too, check that one out HERE

Today, after we have had more reveals from the WWE Elite Squad of figures coming up soon. We didn't really see anything we haven't seen before on the video, you can watch it HERE if you haven't yet. Sam Roberts was joined by Johnny Gargano (who once complemented me on having a nice shirt, OK, it was one of his back in 2012/13) and the 'Total Package' Lex Luger. The video began with the trio talking about the upcoming Monday Night Wars Wave 1 set, this will be a set that features 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin which it looks like it's based on his Defining Moments figure from back in the day. Below you can see both the new one and that one side by side.

Left: Monday Night Wars - Right: Defining Moments

Also in the set will be an Undertaker figure from I think about 1998 but the two gems in this one are from WCW, they are a Hulk Hogan figure in black gear based on his appearance on Nitro the night after Bash At The Beach 1996 when he turned on WCW and of course, joined Scott Hall & Kevin Nash and subsequently formed the nWo.

Monday Night Wars Hulk Hogan

Talking of Hall, he is also in this set and it looks great, it's based on the night he debuted in WCW after leaving the WWF (of course he had been in WCW previously as the Diamond Studd).

Monday Night Wars (Nitro Debut) Scott Hall

This set comes with a Build-A-Figure and it's no coincidence why he was on the video with Roberts & Gargano, this sets BAF is Lex Luger and it's based on the night he turned up at he first ever Nitro when everyone thought he was still part of the WWF.

Monday Night Wars BAF Lex Luger

I said on twitter, I am not overly bothered about the Undertaker figure in this set but it comes with the Luger head so I'll buy it with the other 3. And on that, Roberts announced some news which is great for us here across the pond, not only would the Monday Night Wars waves be exclusives to Walmart in the US but they will be available in Smyths here in the UK and Ireland. This is terrific news as it hopefully (and I say hopefully because Smyths have been known not to have all figures from various sets, fingers crossed that doesn't happen this time) means we won't have to pay over the odds either buying them direct from the US or from a UK independent seller at a higher than retail price.

Also covered in the video, they showed pictures of figures in Wave 3 of the
Monday Night Wars set and these were two versions of Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) they will be in blue gear with the flames, i think that may be the chase, and the regular will be the black gear with the flames. We had them in the red gear with flames in the Elite line many moons ago. The BAF in this set will be the Disciple, you may remember him as The Booty Man but most will remember him as The Zodiac, sorry, I mean Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake.

Also in the Monday Night Wars set with be Ultimate Edition figures and the first two will be Bret 'Hitman' Hart based on his 1997 hart Foundation run and 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper from his days in WCW. They still seem like they are struggling to get a good likeness of Hart but the Piper is outstanding and features in that blog I wrote the other day. Sam Roberts did say these would be available at Smyths too here in the UK BUT, unlike with the Elites in the series, there wasn't a mention of that on screen, just Walmart for the US was. I have tweeted Roberts and tagged in Steve Ozer of Mattel and it would be great if I got an answer but as I am typing this, there isn't one, fingers cross they do come to Smyths over here.

To end, they showed the next set of Coliseum Collection figures, these were originally showed ages ago but now, we finally know when they are going up for order from Mattel Creations and they of course are Roddy Piper and George ‘The Animal’ Steele. December 7th is the date, it’ll be a decent bit of money prior to Christmas but maybe the wait for them won’t be as long as ones in the past have been, I will need to buy them as I collect all male Ultimate Editions.

Outside of the video there have been other reveals today, what has been your favourite?

Until next time, all the best and thanks for reading, Stu
