More Reveals From Mattel: Hogan's Beach Shop, November 2022
All pictures are from Ringside Collectibles
It only seems like I was here the other day, oh yes, I was. So, the reveals keep on coming, some figures we knew were coming and some that were a bit of a surprise, so where do we start, I know, Elite 100.
These are ones we did know about but we have images of the actual
figures, there are some grumblings about the choices for this series
with it being such a milestone one. this is always going to be the case,
there's always series where you think, well I'll
buy that but leave that, unless you are completionist like good brother
Kyle, if you haven't yet, give his channel a look, he has many
wrestling figure related videos a long with videos on other toy lines
too.
Elite 100 'Stunning' Steve Austin |
So, Elite 100, comes in firing with a 'Stunning' Steve Austin, this was the character where the older fans amongst us, myself included, first saw the future 'Stone Cold'. He comes with a ponytail, nice red robe and the classic NWA/WCW TV title, always love a first time in the line title belt and there's another two in this set, more on that shortly. My only gripe with this belt and bear in mind, this is soley going of the images but it seems a bit too big, not the first time this has happened with the title belts, I recall the WCW world title belt that came with Ron Simmons some years back being a tad too small, we mustn't moan I have been told in the past, at least we are getting the belt and should be grateful.
Sticking with WCW and new title belts, Rey Mysterio, him again, we don't
get many of his figures in the Elite line do we <sarcasm>? Joking
aside, with this one we are getting, again, for the first time in the
line, a WCW cruiserweight title. Many times, we
have had a WWE version of the belt so I am happy we now have this one.
John Cena returns to the line as does The Rock with a Brahma Bull title belt which might make me buy the figure and Becky Lynch, we've
had them aplenty, two of which are pictured below but nothing much to say
really.
And last, but not least, we are getting Andre the Giant in street
clothes, not one, but two and, we are getting ANOTHER belt we have not
had in the line previously. The story behind this belt, I believe was,
when Andre was going to face hogan at Wrestle Mania
III another belt had to be created that would fit Andre if he should
win and that is this belt that will come with the Elite 100 version of
Andre. If, I have the story wrong, please let me know.
So, from this series I'll personally be picking up Austin, Mysterio & Andre, not sure if I'll try and get the chase too.
Onto other figures shown, we saw Ultimate Edition figures, the next ones in the Coliseum Collection series, Rick Rude and Jake Roberts. They were better images than we had seen before and it was great to see the head on Rude was way better than the one I had seen before, it was the same as the original Elite years ago but as you can see, this head is a new one. We also had another image of Roberts.
Also shown was the UE AJ Styles which looks OK but I hope the other head scans are better because the one shown on the figure was a bit bland.
We also got to see two Razor Ramon UE figures. Again, I hope we get a couple of choices as far as heads go because the one with the yellow vest, in my opinion, looks horrendous, the one on the one in purple looks spot on but I do have issues with that figure and that is the fact it's in purple, for those who have been collection for a while will know that the Defining Moments figure of Ramon was in purple and I know there will be some who didn't pick that one up and this new one is an UE but it's a letdown for me as there are plenty of outfits Ramon wore that we haven't had in figure form yet.
We also got to see prototype images of future ones, we saw and Andre the Giant & Seth Rollins.
We also saw an Ultimate Edition figure of The Rock, it looks very much like the Amazon exclusive one, you know, the one that had some released with the "I'm your papi" shirts on by mistake. This could be a new figure or it could be a re release like what Mattel did some time back with Brock Lesnar & Shawn Michaels.
We got to see a suited Mr. Perfect, it was his look after his original retirement where he was the advisor to Ric Flair. As you can see by the legs, it looks like a basic but it very well could be a BAF, we shall see. I hope it's a BAF just so it has articulated legs.
We got to see our first Elite Cody Rhodes since he returned to the promotion, looks decent, not sure what series he'll be in at this point.
Also, there was a prototype of the UE figure that is due out, this one is a Mattel Creations one and I think will be released around the summer time. It has a very detailed jacket but for me it doesn't look the best, can't put my finger on why I think that but, well, I don't know, will be interested if anyone else can see what I am seeing. Weird seeing him with the Warrior's feet.
OK, so as I bring this blog to a close, lets end with the man himself, the man who's very own beach shop was used for all these reveals, Hulk Hogan. On show were various HH figures including the helmet one that I love, don't have it displayed with the helmet but with a bandana, takes me back that one to the year I first watching wrestling, answers on a postcode with that year, also, we could see the recent Wrestle Mania one based on his match with The Rock at WM X8, I am waiting for this figure and the others in the set to come from Ringside Collectibles. The images shared below however are the Elite series 101 Mr America, doesn't have what many call the 'hot dog tan' but looking past that actually getting a Mr America Elite is awesome, extra head too showing him shushing the crowd with the mask up which he used to do after TV tapings. Great fig, and there will be a chase version too, can't wait to get these two.
Also shown is what looks to be an Ultimate Edition Hogan based on his look from around 1991 where he would battle Sgt. Slaughter around Wrestle Mania VII, of course Hogan won the WWF title from Slaughter at that PPV. Another great looking figure, I have a feeling it will be some type of exclusive, hopefully not a US store one but maybe Ringside Collectibles if it is an exclusive.
So that's it guys, I know I haven't covered everything but I am all typed up after a long day at work.
What figures are you looking forward to having in hand after these reveals?
