WWE/Mattel Collector Edition Figures
I have a good number of the figures that fall under the collector edition subtitle but there's some I don't have. In this blog I'll talk about some of my favourite ones.
One of the first that caused a stir in the figure collecting world was the Pete Dunne one, as it was a store exclusive in the US, UK collectors who really wanted the first figure of a top British guy over in NXT would struggle to get him, hell, there were many over there too that struggled to get him. Some of the prices on the likes of eBay were ridiculous but, people were paying it just to have the first figure of Dunne. I was offered a loose one at the time, I can't recall what I paid but it wasn't too silly.
One that was released I knew I had to get was Kassisus Ohno, I had followed his career (as Chris Hero) on the indies before he went to the WWE's farm system, in fact, my actual mattel collection started with a figure of someone I followed on the indies (Elite 41 Sami Zayn) who then went there and I knew I just had to have him and from there, well, things got out of control. Back to Ohno, to no surprise, was a difficult one to get, I was hooked up with a guy in Canada who could get me one, in fact, he got me two so I could help another collector out down the line. Love the figure, right up there as favourite Mattel figures.
Another one that came out I wanted but couldn't get was Gorilla Monsoon, the prices quoted were a bit high, I may have secured one now, stay tuned to my social media channels (links at end) to see when I do finally get him. I never thought I'd want a figure who wasn't actually in wrestling gear as much but this one, well, I had to have him. The other figure that was suited that I went over and aboard for was the BAF JJ Dillon, securing that was expensive, had to buy two basic figures that came with some of the parts and they were pricey to be honest, I managed to get one part on it's own on ebay and I was really lucky as a good friend on instagram gave me the head for free. But yes, Monsoon has been a big want and hopefully, he's on his way.
Onto some of the other Collector Edition's I like and have. My most recent one was the Zodiac, another guise of one Ed Leslie who was most famous for portraying Brutus' The Barber' Beefcake'. As it was in a later series, 88 I think, we hoped here in the UK it may have been available in Smyths as they had been getting some like KAMA and Warlord however, it seems they arte not even getting the full range of regular figures in the Elite lines let alone the Collectors Edition ones, this is akward now as we have to look elsewhere not only for Collector Editions but for figures we want in the regular line, luckily, I am not someone that collects every figure in the regular lines.
I was a big fan of the Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart one that came out as it came with a jacket and although not the same quality at least it looked good with the Defining Moments Bret 'Hitman' Hart and Legends Series British Bulldog.
Superstar Billy Graham was another one I liked, came with two heads, one based on his look when he was working in the then WWWF back in the 70's and another to match when he was a commentator in the WWF in the late 80's.
To end, two figures I thought were cool were the Briscoe and Patterson ones, based on their look from the Attitude Era when they were the stooges for Vince McMahon's 'Mr McMahon' character.
So there are loads I haven't covered, are there ones I have left off that you're a fan of, if so let me know. If there are any you are after, again, put in the comments or if you see this linked on social media, put it there, you never know, there maybe someone who sees it who can help you out.
Thanks for reading, happy new year, all the best, Stu.
