SDCC Mattel Reveals - An Overview

Image
Hello all, it's been quite a while since I have written a blog, I have been laid up with sciatica, I hope none of you ever have to go through it, terrible pain. So, it's that time of year again, San Diego Comic Con time and it's the time of year us wrestling figure collectors realise we are going to be hit in the pocket big time as Mattel reveal a myriad of action figures they will be releasing in the coming months. We get to see actual figures and pictures of upcoming figures and we always are surprised with what we see and this year is no different. So much stuff has been released, I am starting this after the first day of reveals and I imagine I won't cover everything. So, let's start with what I always regard as my favourite line (more so the original line) the Legends Series. So, we have series 15 about to hit the UK via independent sellers and we knew what was coming in series 16 with an updated APA (Faarooq/Bradshaw in ring gear when part o...

Ultimate Warrior Elites - My Top 5

Image
Welcome back if you're a previous visitor of the site, and if it's your first time here, thank you for dropping by and I hope you return. Please go back a look at my previous pieces and share them with your wrestling figure collecting friends. Also, please check my links out at the end of the post for my social media channels and ways to support the channel. So, let's get onto todays blog, you would have gathered from the title it's me taking a look at the Mattel Elite/Ultimate Edition style figures of the late Ultimate Warrior.  Legends Series 6         Lost legends I started collecting wrestling figures in 1990, I had always collected figures of some sort from various franchises such as Star Wars, Karate Kid and the like so when I go into wrestling in 1990 it was inevitable that I was going to collect figures based on that genre. I bring this up because the very first wrestling figures I bought were Hasbro ones and they were chosen because of that summer's WWF...

The Hall of Champions Elite Line

Image
Welcome, I have decided now to take a look at the Hall of Champions, Elite line, there were some basics released in double packs but I am going to focus on the Elites. There were 3 series, all consisted of 4 figures each. I have some of these figures in my collection but not all, I'll talk about this as I go on.  Series 1 consisted of Batista, Eddie Guerrero, Rikishi & The Undertaker.  Batista is based on his match with Triple H from Wrestle Mania 21 and comes with the big gold belt, contract and pen. Theres a decent number of Batista figures on the market and for me, this is one of the better ones and I do have it in my collection. Eddie Guerrero was a great figure, based on his 1995 look from his WCW days, it came with the cruiserweight title and a stand to use to pose the figure. I knew when I saw this I had to get it. The Rikishi figure is one I don't have, I do have a figure of his but not this one. This one comes with a black robe and oval IC title belt, it is based ...

The Defining Moments Line Part 3

Image
Welcome to the third and final part of my look at the Defining Moments line. In the first 2 parts I think the peak of this line was covered but let's see what else we got. So, May 2016 saw another Sting being released and this was a 'Surfer' Sting and he was decked out in his ring attire that he wore at the WCW Great American Bash of 1990 and that was a Defining Moment as it was the, well, was supposed to be, the passing of the torch as Sting won his first world title defeating Ric Flair. This figure had a variant of sorts, the first release had the boots with laces and the second one was more accurate as it didn't have laces just like the boots he wore in the match. It's an OK figure, nice display piece and as I said, every bit a defining moment. Next up in July we had another Ultimate Warrior and this is one of the figures where I believe doesn't fit into the defining moment category. It is based on his Ultimate Maniacs tag team which was with Randy Savage and...

The Defining Moments Line Part 1

Image
Welcome back guys, so as you will know if you have read my previous blogs, the original run of Legends is my favourite line released by Mattel and there have been some other exceptional figures released as exclusives to say Ringside Collectables, which I will be writing about in the future but probably my next favourite line is the Defining Moments, and there have been some great figures in the line, based on, Defining Moments if you will but some, well, didn't really belong in the line. Any fans of the JAKKS line will know, they NEVER released a figure of the Macho Man Randy Savage, there were many things going on behind the scenes as to why this was but when Mattel/WWE decided to start this line, a line that was going to be at a higher price point than the figures already released by them then they had to come out the blocks firing and oh boy, did they ever.   One of the best matches in the early Wrestle Mania's was from WM VII and this saw Savage face off ...
